What are these Heelys? Wheelies? Shoes with wheels?
If you're like most people, you've found our website and heard about Heelys but don't have much of a clue what they really are.
Heelys are shoes that have a removable wheel placed in the back of the shoe sole. They allow the rider to roll across flat ground by lifting up their toes and placing 1 foot directly in front of the other. You can both roll, walk and run on Heelys.
The great benefit of Heelys is their ability to both ride and roll along ground but also take the wheel out and transform them completely into normal shoes.
You'll get heads turning to look at you all the time when riding these shoes!
Birthday? Do you offer returns and exchanges?
Yes we do, fact we can be particularly flexible on exchanges and returns where customers let us know of a specific event when placing the order. For details see our returns & exchanges page.
What Shoe Size Heelys Should I get ?
Ok, first of all remember all Heelys are created 1 size smaller than normal shoes, so generally we advise to go 1 size up.
With the smaller Heelys we find there is a greater difference in sizing and sometimes you need to go up 2 sizes i.e. if a child is a Kids size 10, and Kids size 12 should fit well.
But what if you're a half size? Firstly, Heelys don't produce shoes in half sizes. We generally advise to go up 1 and half sizes i.e. Normal shoes size 1 and a half, go for a size 3 and get insoles too. This way there is growing room and the shoes are not too tight.
Girls/Woman Heelys Sizes, do you do above size 7?
A question often asked is where are the girls/womans heelys above size 7. There's good and bad news.
Firstly the bad news is that unfortunately Heelys don't produce girls only models above size UK 7.
However, the good news, is two-fold. Firstly there are a few unisex models that Heelys have released, for example the Heelys Vapor Navy White, Heelys Atomic Red & Heelys Atomic Grey. Secondly in response to this we also retail laces for girls which will allow you to personalise your Heelys to be more "girly"!
What's the difference between the various Heelys Models?
In terms of features in terms of functional use you'll want to look out for the following:
- 1 or 2 wheel Heelys. Two wheel Heelys are easier to learn on. One wheel Heelys are good for a person with reasonable sense of balance & is good for turning more easily as well as going a little faster.
- ABEC Bearing Rating. With Heelys these go from 1 to 5 rating. Bearings are what help the wheel turn in the shoes. Generally bearing ratings are connected with the level of friction and noise created. The higher the rating the better as you'll find you can go further with less effort on the wheels.
- Colour.
Self explanatory. Go for the colour you like most!
- Grind Plates. Some Heelys have these included. These are for allowing the user to slide along rails and curbs, this adds another dimension to the shoes and is generally for the more extreme rider.
- Wheel Type. Most wheels are called "FATS" these are the standard Heelys Wheel. The Evolution model has the "Deuce" wheel, which is a twin pronged shoe that has added stability, but which is also bigger. The Rebel wheel with double wheels have smaller than normal wheels to allow both to be housed.
What's the difference between 1 and 2 wheel Heelys? Which is better?
Ok, probably our second most asked question when on the phone to customers.
One-Wheel Heelys are our biggest sellers. These are good for the original and more widely used Heelys experience. Why? They allow the rider to turn easily and ride a little faster than 2 wheel heelys. They also come with both Removal Tool and Sole Saver. These enable the rider to take out the wheels easily and wear them like normal shoes. The sole saver also fills out the hole in the shoe when the wheel is removed from the shoe.
Two-Wheel Heelys are good for some beginners, because they allow a child with a poorer sense of balance to ride heelys more easily. Two wheel Heelys function similarly to stablisers on a bike. We DO NOT advise trying to ride 2 wheel Heelys with only 1 wheel in.
Children who have never done balance sports like ice skating or roller blading or have a poor sense of balance are suited to 2 wheel Heelys.
NOTE: Two wheel Heelys DO NOT come with a removal tool. The removal tool allows the user to rider to take the wheels out and wear them like normal shoes. You can buy this separately though if needed. They also DO NOT come with sole savers which fill out the shoes when the wheel is removed.
