We recommend wearing Protective Gear when riding Heelys
Getting Started---Hint & Tips---Maintenance
Getting Started:
1. Find a railing to hang on to, or a person to help you balance. Lift the ball of your foot and find your balance point. Try this on one foot, then repeat with both feet.
2. Begin with your feet together.
3. Step forward, leading with your strong leg, and balance on the heel assembly.
4. While the strong leg is balanced on the heel,
Use the trailing leg to push your body forward; then quickly lift the ball of your foot and balance on the wheel.
5. Pull yourself along the railing at first, while finding the balance point.
6. And to make sure you don’t bust, keep your trailing foot directly behind the leading foot.
7. To stop, put your back foot out, putting pressure on your toe and run off it, til you come to a stop.
Hints & Tips:
1. Hold a handrail or door jam while finding your balance point.
2. Lock the knee of the trailing foot.
3. Keep one foot directly behind the other.
4. Go over cracks at an angle.
5. To Heel faster run (or if your really confident jump) into the motion instead of stepping or pushing.
6. If you think you’re going to do a face plant,
just put your toes down and walk out of Heeling motion.
7. Don't go too fast down hills, if you think you're going to fast to control yourself safely, walk/run out of the motion.
8. Look out for stones on the ground, especially those 1cm or bigger.
9. When Heeling and you feel any resistance in the movement of the wheels, stop and take a moment to check if any small stones are caught inside the sole housing. To remove any stones caught first try turning the wheel clockwise, if it still does not come out remove the wheel.
10. When learning don't try too much too soon.
11. When Heeling, make sure you are paying attention to the ground immediately in front of you whilst moving in order avoid stones etc. that make catch inside the wheels.
Maintenance:
1. Avoid Heelying on wet surfaces, as you will not want to get the bearings inside your wheels exposed to water.
2. Check wheels and bearings regularly to make sure they are lubricated and free moving. We do not recommend removing the bearings from the wheels.
3. Your wheels will show wear with frequent use or over a prolonged period of time. If you find one particular wheel is showing a wear pattern try swapping the wheel to the other shoe.
4. Remember to check wheels and its housing before heeling to make sure there are no objects that would affect movement.
5. We do not suggest machine washing your shoes. Instead try using warm water with a mild soap. See our Heelys Shoes Range |
